CALYPSO
After the pack is
shuffled it is handed to a spectator and the performer turns his back, the
assistant is instructed to deal any number of cards, face down on the table. He
stops at any point, note the card stopped at, the replaces all the cards back
on the pack.
The pack is now cut several times. The
performer turns around and Endeavour to find the selected card, saying that he
will ‘take two chances’, and lays two cards face down on the table.
The spectator is
asked to select one of them and, on being turned over, it is seen to be the
selected card. The performer now ask how many cards he counted to; when told he
turns the second card and it is seen to represent this number, foe instance, if
he counted to five cards, the card turned up will be a five!!!
This particular
trick can be very baffling to the onlooker, but doesn’t require a great deal of
skill to perform.
The pack can be
borrowed and there is no setup necessary, it is almost a perfect card trick.
You begin by
shuffling the pack and in doing so; note the bottom card, which is
eventually shuffled to the top.
Hand the pack to someone to place face down on
the table, but as you so, remember which the bottom card is now, you know
the top and the bottom card. For example, they might be the Ace of Spades
on the top and king of diamond at the bottom.
Turn your back and have your assistant deal
the cards once at a time on the table. He can stop whenever he chooses, but he
is to remember how many he
deals, when he stops, he
is asked to pick up the last card dealt, remember it and replace it, face down,
on the remainder of the pack.( let’s say it was Eight of Hearts).
The dealt-off cards are squared up and placed
on the pack also (from left to right). The whole pack can now be cut several
times. On receiving the pack, you turn the cards, face to you, and run through
them looking for the top card (Ace of Spades).
When you find it,
the card immediately in front of it will be the selected card.
Remove it and place it face down on the table.
Cut the Ace of Spades to the face of the pack. Now count all the cards behind
Ace of Spades until you reach the King of Diamonds, noting the number of cards
between them, mentally add 2 to this number ( for instance, the amount of cards
might total 5)
And then take a
card to a similar value, say 5 of hearts, and lay it face down beside the
other. Whichever one is turned up first, it will reveal the card selected or
the number dealt; turn up the second card and the trick is brought to a
successful conclusion!!!
